Valerie Bob, M Ed, Cowichan and Nimiipu (Nez Perce)
Teacher at Lummi Nation School, Valerie is applying to be a doctoral candidate. The doctorate focus will be to continue her study into the psycho-analytical needs of First Nation children and impediments to their achieving scholastically in a dual culture environment. She currently participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to form individual educational plans and Special Education requirements related to Bureau of Indian Education. Valerie's Masters thesis researched elements of PTSD affecting learning in school children. Valerie is a resident at Lummi Nation and is related to one of the tribe's distinguished culture bearers. She has two children and three grandchildren at home in her care. Valerie carries the name Se-li-qui-ya (carries the song for the mask)
